With 189 member nations, a staff representing over 170 countries, and offices dispersed across 130 locations, the World Bank Group stands as a remarkable global consortium. This partnership comprises five distinct institutions unified in their mission to foster sustainable solutions aimed at reducing poverty and fostering shared prosperity within developing nations.

The World Bank Group is among the world’s most substantial sources of funding and expertise for developing countries. Its five institutions are collectively committed to poverty reduction, the enhancement of shared prosperity, and the promotion of sustainable development.

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA) together constitute the World Bank, providing financial assistance, policy guidance, and technical support to the governments of developing nations. IDA’s focus is on the world's most impoverished nations, while IBRD aids middle-income and creditworthy lower-income countries.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) are dedicated to bolstering the private sector within developing economies. Through these bodies, the World Bank Group delivers financing, technical assistance, political risk insurance, and dispute resolution services to private enterprises, including financial institutions.

Though each of the World Bank’s five institutions has its own membership, governance structures, and foundational charters, they operate cohesively to serve their partner countries. Addressing today’s development challenges necessitates the active involvement of the private sector, yet it is the public sector that lays the groundwork for private investment to flourish. The complementary roles of these institutions endow the World Bank Group with a unique capability to channel global financial resources, knowledge, and innovative solutions to meet the developmental needs of its member nations.
